What are floating formats?

Advertising messages that are not displayed as part of a web page that is being browsed, but rather are unexpectedly superimposed over it, adopting the form of a new pop-up window. Generally they are static advertisements such as flies, interstitials, pop-ups or pop-unders, but may also move across the screen, as happens with layers.

Their intrusive nature may run contrary to its commercial objectives and be rejected by users, who may configure their browsers to block all pop-ups.
