## What it is and how it works

It may be a cryptic ad, a video snippet, a countdown or a holding page. The campaign is then completed with a second phase, the reveal, which discloses the product, the brand or the full message.

It is common for product, film, video game and event launches. It works best when the mystery is understandable and the reveal arrives on time; if it drags on or disappoints, interest can fade. It is related to hype, the anticipation a campaign manages to create.
