## What it is and how it works

Clicking is the basic interaction in desktop interfaces: following a link, ticking a checkbox or submitting a form usually starts with a click. On touchscreens the equivalent is a tap, and many analytics tools record both in the same way.

In digital marketing a click is also a unit of measurement. Metrics such as click-through rate and cost per click are built on it, although a click only shows that someone acted on an element, not that they read, understood or converted. In Spanish the recommended spelling is “clic”.
