## What it is and how it works

It includes purchases on mobile-friendly websites, in shop and marketplace apps and, increasingly, within social networks and messaging apps. It has been driven by digital wallet payments, fast log-in and better connectivity.

Good design depends on speed, short forms, easy-to-tap buttons and a simple checkout, because a small screen magnifies any friction. It differs from mobile marketing, which covers commercial communication on mobile devices even when no purchase takes place, and from social commerce, which focuses on selling within social networks.
