## What it is and how it works

The word is short for weblog. Each article, or post, can combine text, images, video and links, and often allows comments. Content management systems such as WordPress make it possible to publish without coding knowledge.

Blogs were one of the most visible expressions of Web 2.0 and remain useful for brands and professionals: they offer an owned space for in-depth content, organic search visibility and topical authority, without relying on social media algorithms. They can be personal, educational, journalistic or corporate. In Spanish the term bitácora is also used, though less often.
