## What it is and how it works

It differs from renting a [server](https://www.zorraquino.com/en/dictionary/internet/server.html) from the provider, although the services may be combined with management and support. Hosting does not necessarily mean full administration either. What matters is defining who maintains the hardware and software, who responds to incidents and what continuity provision is contracted. The commercial label does not replace that allocation of responsibilities.
