## What it is and how it works

It cannot be used to calculate a ranking or establish a universal optimum distance. Writing should maintain understandable relationships between concepts and address the reader's need. Artificially placing words closer together can weaken an explanation; clarity of meaning is a more useful editorial criterion than forcing a numerical proximity.
