Trend axes - UAV - Drone - Unmanned aircraft - Autonomous robots Some figures 1.5T Trillion dollars is the estimated value the drone market could reach by 2040, according to Morgan Stanley. 100,000 Jobs the drone industry is estimated to create in the United States by 2025, according to AUVSI. +15-20% Estimated increase in companies’ profit margins thanks to the savings on shipping costs from using drones, according to a McKinsey report. 7.8M Million drone shipments estimated in 2020 and $3.3 billion in revenue, according to Goldman Sachs, compared with 450,000 shipments and $700 million in 2014. ## Flying allies with many possibilities Beyond the basic functions they were originally designed for, drones are taking over public space with new, more specialised services such as security, cleaning and disease detection. As the technology has improved and regulations have relaxed, drones have increasingly made their way into the conversation about the possibilities of home delivery. Alongside the democratisation of these flying robots for delivery or filming, new models are specialising in different fields, giving rise to new companies and a booming market. They have already made the leap to the consumer market and are now being put to work in commercial and civil government applications, from firefighting to agriculture, among other sectors. This is creating a market opportunity too big to ignore. Until now, drones have mainly been controlled remotely by a pilot, but the new generation of AI-powered drones is on its way to operating independently. Drones have undoubtedly conquered the sky and their demand has taken off over the past two years, slipping into our lives all too easily, but what will the medium- and long-term consequences be? ## Cases 01 / 03 Zorraquino spotlights 1. 01 Drones are evolving into powerful commercial tools that benefit a range of sectors as monitoring tools. 2. 02 The military sector is the most mature. Defence will remain the largest market for the foreseeable future, as global competition expands and the technology keeps improving. 3. 03 Flight, speed, photography: drones attract consumption and consumers.
