Subjects that dominate the conversations going on on social media at any given time and which take the form of phrases or words preceded by a hashtag. This term first appeared on Twitter, which includes the 10 biggest trending topics on its home page, giving users the opportunity to personalize them according to their location and the persons they follow on the platform. By extension, the expression is also used to refer to an issue of major interest or that is in the news, whether or not it is being commented on social media.
