API-first

API-first is an approach that defines a solution's interfaces and contracts as a central part of its design

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It makes it easier to coordinate teams and consumers before the implementation is complete. It requires agreement on data, errors, permissions and evolution. Designing an API first does not remove the need to research the tasks and needs it must serve.
