Heavy user

A heavy user is a person who uses or buys a product or service far more often, or in greater volume, than the average customer

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

In many categories a small share of customers accounts for a large share of sales, although the proportion varies by sector and is best checked against one’s own data. These users are therefore studied to understand what they value, look after their experience and anticipate the risk of churn.

Heavy users are contrasted with medium and light users. The term should not be confused with a power user of software, who stands out for mastering advanced features rather than for sheer volume of use.
