What it is and how it works
The proportion of people who observe or contribute depends on the community and the moment. Counting messages alone is not enough to assess how it works. It is useful to offer ways of participating with different levels of visibility and to understand what readers gain, without pressuring them to post or attributing a single motivation to them.
