Social media marketing

Social media marketing (SMM) is the use of social networks and social media to achieve marketing goals, from awareness to sales or customer service

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It combines organic content, community management, social advertising, partnerships with creators and influencers, social listening and, on some platforms, direct selling. Each network has its own audiences, formats and rules, so strategy is usually adapted to each one rather than repeating the same message.

It is part of digital marketing alongside SEO, search advertising, email marketing and content marketing. It differs from SMO, which focuses on optimising content and profiles to be shared and found, and from community management, which is one of its functions.
