Email forward rate
Email forward rate is the percentage of emails in a campaign that recipients forward or share with other people
What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.
What it is and how it works
It is calculated by dividing recorded forwards or shares by emails sent or delivered and multiplying by one hundred. It shows how far content is useful or appealing enough for recipients to recommend it and act as new senders.
Measurement is limited: tools only record forwards made through the campaign’s own buttons or links, not those made with the email client’s forward function. In other contexts, such as growth marketing, people speak of the viral coefficient or K-factor to measure how many new users each existing user brings in, which is a different concept.
