Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communication standard that lets nearby devices exchange data and audio

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It connects headphones, speakers, keyboards, smartwatches, sensors and phones to cars. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) uses very little power and underpins many wearables, Internet of Things devices and the beacons used in proximity marketing.

The name honours Harald Bluetooth, a tenth-century Danish king known for uniting tribes, echoing the idea of connecting different devices. Its logo combines the runes for his initials. The standard is managed by the Bluetooth SIG, an industry consortium.
