B2B e-commerce

B2B e-commerce is the buying and selling of products or services between businesses through digital channels

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It includes online shops for trade customers, ordering portals for distributors, industrial marketplaces and electronic data interchange (EDI) between systems. Unlike B2C, it usually involves negotiated or volume pricing, customer-specific catalogues, several people in the buying decision, repeat orders and credit terms.

B2B platforms therefore include specific features such as company accounts with multiple users and permissions, order approval, customer-specific price lists and ERP integration. Many business purchases now begin with an online search, even if they are closed with help from a sales team.
