Unique visitor

A unique visitor is a unit identified and counted once within a period according to a tool's method. It may be based on a browser, device, account or other signals

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It does not necessarily equate to a person: there may be duplication across devices or shared use. The figure approximates reach within its observation conditions. In measurement based on browser identifiers, deleting them may cause the same person to be counted as new again. It should be distinguished from sessions and page views, and explained alongside the limits of identification and recording.
