Plain language

Plain language organises and writes information so that its intended audience can find, understand and use it. It encompasses structure, vocabulary, design and suitability for the context

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It is not simply about shortening sentences or avoiding every technical term. A technical expression may be necessary if it is explained where appropriate. It differs from easy-read content, which uses specific criteria and processes for people with comprehension difficulties. Quality is checked through the use of information, not an automated score based on length.
