Impersonation

Impersonation uses someone else's identity to make people believe that a message, profile or service comes from a party that did not issue it. It can affect brands, organisations and individuals

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

Not every use of a name or sign constitutes impersonation: a reference or criticism may have a different purpose. The response should identify the deception, preserve evidence and provide official verification channels. A familiar appearance does not establish authenticity, and a verified account does not eliminate every risk.
