Naming architecture

Naming architecture sets out criteria for naming an organisation's brands, products and services consistently

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It includes hierarchies, descriptors, families and rules for future additions. For example, it helps decide whether a new solution should use the corporate name or a name of its own. It should be coordinated with brand architecture and with linguistic and legal review.

Variants and linked concepts

  • Descriptor. A descriptor clarifies the activity or function of an offering. It can accompany a proper name without becoming the brand name.
  • Corporate naming. Corporate naming should coordinate the names of divisions, services and products so that the offering is easy to understand.
