Clear space

Clear space is the empty area that must surround a brand mark, free of text, images or other elements, to support its legibility and presence

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It is defined in the identity guidelines, usually using an element of the mark itself as the unit, such as the height of a letter or the symbol, so that it stays proportional at any size.

Respecting it stops the mark looking cluttered or blending into its surroundings, especially on posters, websites, co-branded materials or sponsorship. It is one of the basic application rules, alongside minimum size and colour versions.
