Online, freebies are typically downloadable files such as templates, wallpapers, icons, fonts, guides or small tools, although the term also covers physical samples and gifts. They are the basic building block of freebie marketing.
They work best when they relate to the brand's business and are recognisably its own. When offered in exchange for contact details they act as a lead magnet, in which case people must be told clearly how their data will be used.
