Geomarketing

Geomarketing is the discipline of analysing location and territorial data to inform marketing and business decisions

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It combines geographic information with socio-demographic, spending, competitor or mobility data. It is used to choose shop locations, define catchment areas, allocate sales territories, plan leaflet drops or outdoor advertising and target digital campaigns by area.

It differs from geotargeting, the specific tactic of showing content or ads based on location, and from proximity marketing, which acts when a person is near a given point. Geomarketing is the prior analysis that guides those actions. When it uses people's location data, it must comply with data protection law.
