Graphic design

Graphic design is the discipline that arranges images, typography, colour and form to communicate a message visually

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It is applied to visual identities, posters, publications, packaging, signage, advertising and on-screen content. The work involves establishing a hierarchy of information, building a coherent visual language and adapting it to each medium and audience.

It is no longer tied to print: much graphic design today is produced for digital media. It differs from digital and web design in that those add interaction and interface behaviour, whereas graphic design focuses on visual communication itself, whether printed or on screen.
