Merchandising
Merchandising is the set of techniques used at the point of sale to present products attractively and make them easier to buy
What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.
What it is and how it works
It includes product placement on shelves, use of space, signage, lighting, displays and promotional materials. Visual merchandising focuses on aesthetics, such as window displays and store atmosphere, while category or space management looks at which range and how much space to allocate according to profitability. Its principles also apply to online shops, in how categories are ordered and products presented.
In everyday Spanish usage, “merchandising” also refers to promotional items bearing the brand or image of a company, band or film, such as T-shirts, mugs or tote bags; in English these are usually called “merch” or branded merchandise. The intended sense should be clear from context.
