Nofollow

Nofollow is a value of the rel attribute that provides information about a link's relationship with its destination

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

Google interprets it as a hint for how to treat links, alongside other values such as sponsored and ugc. It does not prevent a destination page from being indexed by other means. Nor should it be used as a substitute for a clear internal architecture.
