Tree testing

Tree testing evaluates whether people can find information in a navigation structure presented without the visual design

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

Participants are given tasks and the researcher observes which paths they choose, whether they reach the destination and how much difficulty they have. It helps detect grouping and labelling problems. It is especially useful for testing an information architecture before the interface is built.
