Clustering

Clustering groups items according to similarities defined by a method. In data analysis, it allows datasets to be explored without necessarily starting from known labels

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

The groups depend on the variables, representation and distance criterion. They are not natural categories proven by the algorithm and require interpretation. In search, the term can also describe the grouping of related results. That particular application does not encompass its full statistical meaning or imply that all search engines work in the same way.
