Google Alerts

Google Alerts is a free Google service that sends email notifications when it finds new online content matching keywords defined by the user

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

Users can choose how often they are notified, the language, region and type of source, and receive results by email or as an RSS feed. It is a simple way to track mentions of a brand, a person, competitors or a topic of interest.

Its coverage is limited: it does not catch every mention, particularly on social media, forums or content behind a login, and sometimes arrives late. For more complete monitoring, dedicated monitoring or social listening tools are used, with Google Alerts as a basic complement.
