Mailing list

A mailing list brings together addresses used to distribute messages to a group. It may serve newsletters, discussions or service communications

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It needs a clear purpose and processes for subscriptions, changes and unsubscribing. The presence of an address on the list does not in itself establish permission for every type of message. Maintaining records of sources and preferences helps prevent unexpected communications, duplicates and the reactivation of people who have unsubscribed.
