Opt-in

Opt-in is an active expression of acceptance for a specific purpose, such as requesting a subscription. Its design should make clear what is being accepted

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

A pre-ticked box should not be confused with an active choice. Double opt-in adds confirmation from the specified mailbox, but does not in itself establish personal identity or permission for every use. This entry explains the mechanism without turning it into a single legal rule for all types of communication.
