Opt-out is the mechanism through which a person indicates that they do not wish a communication or processing activity to continue in a particular context. In email, it usually takes the form of unsubscribing from a list

What it is and how it works
It should be easy to find and complete, without unnecessary obstacles. The term is also used for models that presume participation until someone objects; whether they are permissible depends on the circumstances. A subsequent unsubscribe should not be confused with having obtained prior acceptance for every purpose.
