What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

From 2011 Google began encrypting searches made by signed-in users and within a few years extended encryption to all searches. As a result, analytics tools no longer received the query behind each visit, and most organic traffic appeared as “(not provided)”.

Google Analytics 4 no longer shows organic keywords in its standard reports. To see which queries a site appears for, Google Search Console is used; it provides aggregated data on queries, impressions and clicks and can be linked to Analytics.
