OTT (over-the-top)

OTT, or over-the-top, describes services distributed over the internet whose offering is not necessarily integrated into the access operator's traditional service. They use telecommunications networks to reach people

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

The term applies to video, audio and communications. It does not mean physical independence from the network. Nor is it equivalent to CTV: the latter identifies connected television as a device or environment. A campaign may bring both concepts together, but they should be distinguished when describing where and how content is delivered.
