Scalable pixels (sp)

Scalable pixels, or sp, are units used in Android to express text sizes that account for density and font size preferences. They allow typography to respond to those settings

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

Scaling should not always be assumed to be linear. The interface needs testing with enlarged text to detect clipping, overlaps or inaccessible actions. Spaces and components require their own sizing criteria; defining typography in sp does not in itself resolve the accessibility of the layout.
