SSL
SSL is the name of a historical family of security protocols superseded by TLS. The expression “SSL certificate” remains in colloquial use for certificates associated with HTTPS connections
What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.
What it is and how it works

Encryption protects communication within its scope, but does not in itself prevent deception or application errors. A fraudulent website can also use HTTPS.
