Click-through
A click-through is the act of clicking an ad or link and arriving at the destination page it leads to
What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.
What it is and how it works
It underpins metrics such as CTR (click-through rate), which relates clicks to impressions, and pricing models such as cost per click. The term is used in advertising, email marketing and search results alike.
A click recorded by the platform is not the same as a visit that actually reaches the page: some clicks never become a tracked session because of quick exits, blocking or loading problems. That is why click and visit figures in analytics rarely match.
