Brand typicality

Brand typicality is the degree to which a brand is perceived as representative of a category. It connects the brand with the characteristics an audience considers typical of that group

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It differs from unaided recall and preference. Being a recognisable example can help people understand an offering, but may also limit associations with other categories. These consequences depend on context and do not automatically imply that the name has become generic or lost legal protection.
