Link farm
A link farm is a network of websites created or used mainly to link to one another in order to manipulate search engine rankings
What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.
What it is and how it works
These networks usually consist of pages with no common theme, thin or automatically generated content and thousands of outbound links, often using the anchor text the owner wants to rank for. Artificial directories that sell links in bulk are also described this way. Their aim was to inflate PageRank artificially.
Search engines treat them as a link scheme that breaches their guidelines: Google identifies them and discounts the value of those links, and may apply manual actions to the site that benefits. It is a black hat technique and should not be confused with legitimate linking between related sites or well-curated topical directories.
