What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.
What it is and how it works
The term combines “mobile” and “blog” and became popular in the mid-2000s, when early camera phones could send photos by MMS or email to specialist services that published them instantly. It was a forerunner of the instant mobile publishing that is now commonplace.
With the arrival of smartphones, blogging platform apps and, above all, social networks such as Instagram and Twitter, posting from a phone was no longer distinctive and the term fell out of use. It is kept as a historical reference in the evolution of blogging and user-generated content.
