Paid traffic

Paid traffic comprises visits attributed to advertising campaigns under the measurement rules used. It may come from search engines, social platforms or other advertising placements

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

The relationship between investment and visits has time and attribution limits: stopping a campaign does not demonstrate that all its effects end immediately. It should be distinguished from organic, referral and direct traffic, the last of which is also used for visits with no identifiable source. Tagging helps interpret provenance without resolving every measurement issue on its own.
