Keylogger
A keylogger is a program or device that records a person’s keystrokes, often without their knowledge
What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.
What it is and how it works
It can be software, installed as malware through an attachment, a download or a vulnerability, or hardware, physically connected between the keyboard and the computer. Malicious use aims to capture passwords, bank details, conversations or anything else that is typed, and send it to third parties.
There are also legitimate uses, such as software testing or certain monitoring tools, which must comply with the law and respect the privacy of those affected. Protection includes up-to-date antivirus software, avoiding software of doubtful origin, using password managers and enabling two-step verification, which limits the damage even if a password is captured.
