What it is and how it works
It is the technology behind price comparison sites: it crawls catalogues or receives data feeds from retailers and displays prices, delivery costs, availability and ratings on a single page. This cuts shoppers’ search time and increases price transparency.
Today the same function appears in search engines with shopping results, browser extensions and AI assistants that can recommend products. For retailers, keeping product data up to date (price, stock, identifiers) is key to appearing correctly in these services.
