Relevance

Relevance is the degree to which content, a message or a brand is pertinent and meaningful to a person in a given context

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

In marketing it is judged from the audience’s point of view: a message is relevant when it responds to a specific need, interest or moment. Relevance therefore depends on targeting, channel and timing, not just on the quality of the content.

It should not be confused with visibility or awareness. A brand can appear frequently without being relevant, and presence compared with competitors is measured with indicators such as share of voice. In search engines and advertising platforms, relevance is also a technical criterion that systems use to rank results and adverts.
