What is a hash?

A hash is the result of a cryptographic function that uses a mathematical algorithm to convert any content or block of data into a series of 40 characters, regardless of the length of the original content. These cryptographic series of 40 characters are known as hashes and are used, among other things, to store passwords securely and in blockchain technology.
