In recent years, modular design has gained ground as one of the most relevant trends, emphasising organisation and visual clarity. One example in digital design is the concept of the bento box. Originating from the traditional Japanese lunch box, which presents food in an orderly and functional arrangement of compartments, it has been adapted to digital product design to create more balanced, accessible and visually pleasing interfaces.

Characterised by its modular structure, in this design each section acts as an independent container. This allows different types of content or features to be presented in an organised and hierarchical way. A structure that not only improves navigation and usability, but also aids visual understanding.

In addition, using these containers makes it possible to control the relevance of content according to the size of each section, helping users quickly identify the most important information.

In terms of functionality, this modular design reduces visual clutter by creating more white space and providing a clearer hierarchy of information. It makes reading and interaction easier and, in turn, allows simple animations to be integrated that can effectively convey various visual messages.

However, although it is an excellent option for simple, visually striking interfaces, it is not recommended for projects that handle complex hierarchies or contain a large amount of information, as it can be difficult to maintain a clear and effective order, and it can increase cognitive load.
