Click farm

A click farm is an organised operation that generates fake clicks, visits, followers, reviews or downloads using hired workers or large banks of devices

What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.

What it is and how it works

It is used to inflate advertising and popularity metrics artificially: ad clicks, likes, views, app installs or ratings. Some rely on people paid very little to interact manually, others on racks of phones controlled automatically, which makes their activity hard to tell apart from genuine use.

It is a form of ad fraud and platform manipulation, against the policies of social networks and ad systems. For advertisers and brands it means spending budget on worthless interactions and making decisions based on distorted data.
