What it is and how it works

Analysing them shows where users enter, what steps they take, where they deviate and at which point they leave. It is based on clickstream data and visualised in reports such as path exploration in Google Analytics 4 or flow analysis in tools like Adobe Analytics.

It helps to spot unexpected journeys, loops that suggest confusion or unnecessary steps before a conversion. It is best compared with the flow intended in the design (user flow) and with qualitative methods, because the data show what people do but not why. In usability, the Spanish term is sometimes also used for breadcrumbs, which are a different concept.
