Hit
A hit is each request for a file that a browser makes to a web server, such as a page, an image or a stylesheet
What it means, how it is used and where it comes up, with its related concepts.
What it is and how it works
Loading a single page generates many hits, one for each resource. In the early days of the web the number of hits was used as an audience metric, but it is unreliable: a page with more images produces more hits without having more visitors. It was therefore replaced by metrics such as page views, sessions and users.
In Universal Analytics, the previous version of Google Analytics, a “hit” was each interaction sent to the tool, such as a page view or an event. With Google Analytics 4 the term has fallen out of use. Today it survives mainly in server log analysis.
