What is lean manufacturing?

Business management system that arose in Japan in the 50s, and conceived by Taiichi Ohno, Shigeo Shingo, William Edward Deming and Eijy Toyoda, amongst others, at the Toyota factory.

The model aims to eliminate waste from the production system, such that the time between a customer placing an order and its delivery is reduced, whilst lowering costs and improving quality.
